TOPIK to Finally Include Speaking Test from 2023

Happy New Year~!

I’ve been neglecting this blog for longer than I like. Sometimes life happens and sometimes… well, I get lazy. I also haven’t really been doing much studying in the last couple of years due to doing a full-time double degree so there was not much to update about. But! I’m finally done with that now and have a bit more free time.

So… I will get back to updating this blog as often as I can as well as my other SNS channels (hello Instagram account that is still stuck in Korea, lol). I’m also thinking of starting YouTube again to really make myself practice. I always want to do a lot of things but, lol.

TOPIK Speaking Test

Anyway! I saw an interesting news article today, which was why I wanted to blog. After hearing about it so many years ago, it’s finally happening – TOPIK will be including a speaking test from 2023! It’s also interesting because the article mentioned NIIED‘s plans to change the current TOPIK physical paper format to Internet-based testing. I wonder how that’s going to work out. The article gives no information on how it will be held at overseas test locations yet. I guess we will have to wait and find out once they have figured it all out.

  1. I think an internet-based test would be a very interesting development! As someone who had to drive a total of 7 hours to take the TOPIK in October, that’s very exciting news. The thought of adding a speaking element makes me want to break out in hives, even though I think it’s a good development.

    1. Hmm, I don’t think the internet-based test would mean being able to take them online at home though as it would be very easy to cheat, and with the speaking test added, it’s even more impossible for it to be taken at home with the other three tests, lol.

Yes! I’ve seen many people who scored high in the past TOPIKs but sounded unnatural when speaking so I’m excited for the speaking test because it will finally make TOPIK a more well-rounded test.

      1. Yeah, I didn’t mean to imply that people would be able to take the test wherever they wanted, but I do think that having an online test would create opportunities for the test to be given at more locations. Tests such as the Praxis and the GRE, for example, can be taken at thousands of locations across the nation because all you need is a room with computers and a proctor.
